Last minute call for help.

While making one of my many late night, last minute trips to the hardware store for additional supplies during my kitchen remodel, I got a call from the Pattie the owner of Strongheart Yoga, a studio I belong to, asking if I would be available to do a photo shoot the next morning. Apparently the photographer she had hired came down with the flu and she was under a time crunch with the web developer to get photos to finish the new website. Did I already have work planned the next morning in the kitchen, sure, but I welcomed the challenge. And challenging it was.

Pattie sent me a shot list and it turned out it this would include some of the students being used as models. This concerned me due to the lighting in the lighting in the studio, which of course is very low (it’s a yoga studio). For the models, I didn’t want to use a flash, as it would be too harsh and the studio is small so I didn’t have a lot of room to for soft boxes. So I ended up using a hand-held clamp light and shot at 1600 ISO.

I normally shoot in RAW but, the Webmaster was going to do the post processing and they requested jpeg files, which made the turn around time quicker for the model shots. I had a second session shooting the still life shots, which I shot in RAW and did the processing in Adobe Lightroom.

Check out my work: http://www.strongheartyoga.com/ and maybe come on down and take a class.

Namaste

The Projects keep coming: Stained Glass

Even working full-time and spending nights and weekends on the aforementioned kitchen remodeling work, I still answered the call from several friends in need a photographer for several important and rewarding projects. The first of those came from my good friend Mary Bailey; she needed someone to provide images that would showcase the wonderful stained glass windows of the beautiful St. Veronica Catholic Church of East Pointe, Michigan for a book (more on that later) she was working on.

The results of this collaboration (and my photographs also got a mention in the Michigan Catholic http://www.themichigancatholic.org/2016/12/christmas-stained-glass/ ):

Cover Work!

My photographic work from last summer made the cover of the 2016 Edition of the Insider’s Guide to the Pointes, plus several other shots from around the Pointes were also used within the guide (see pages 14, 24, 36, 44, & 54. It was a great assignment and I had a lot of fun doing it for my good friends Terry and John Minnis who own Grosse Pointe Magazine. These trolleys, reminders of the early 20th century run up and down Kercheval and Mack avenues on Fridays and Saturdays evenings providing riders a great way to visit the many businesses along both those streets. Check out the link below to the magazine and it’s link to the guide.
